- Won the NIT in 1976 with a victory over UNC-Charlotte
- Coached 23 players who were drafted by the NBA, 5 in the first round
- Named National Coach of the Year in 1978 and SEC Coach of the Year four times
- Coached at Regis University in Denver, CO for 5 seasons and succeeded Gene Bartow at Central Missouri State University in 1965 before going back to Kentucky as an assistant
