  • Took UK to the NCAA Final Four 3 times (1975, 1978, 1984)
  • Reached the NCAA championship game in 1975, losing to UCLA in John Wooden's final game
  • Coached Kentucky to eight SEC titles and won 1 league tournament in 6 attempts
  • Won the NIT in 1976 with a victory over UNC-Charlotte
  • Coached 23 players who were drafted by the NBA, 5 in the first round
  • Named National Coach of the Year in 1978 and SEC Coach of the Year four times
  • Coached at Regis University in Denver, CO for 5 seasons and succeeded Gene Bartow at Central Missouri State University in 1965 before going back to Kentucky as an assistant
